The crowds asked him, “What should we do?” He answered, “He who has two garments, let him give one to the one who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.” (Luke 3:10-11)
This passage from the Gospel invites us to the true love that we must express among ourselves through charity, sharing and mutual compassion. We are therefore invited to be attentive and sensitive to the needs of our neighbor, adopting a preferential option for the poor, the marginalized, prisoners, and all those who need any support or help from us. To achieve this, we must fight within ourselves, and everywhere certain evils such as selfishness, self-centeredness, self-love, pride exist. Sometimes, we must forget ourselves for the good of others.
In the same way that we are often ready to share joy with others, we should also be ready to share suffering with others.
Lord God from whom all grace and comfort come, dispose our hearts to the spirit of sharing all that we are and all that we have. Open our eyes greatly so that we are truly sensitive to all our brothers and sisters who need us morally, spiritually, and even materially. Amen.
