My lover speaks; he says to me,” Arise, my beloved, my dove, my beautiful one, and come!”  –  Sg 2:8-14

Advent is a period that allows us to weed out the invaders that are competing to choke out our sole responsibility; to firmly dedicate our life to God. There are so many invaders competing to occupy that space, from selfishness, ignorance, jealousy and others, all which go against building our relationship with God.

Today’s reading encourages us and perhaps awakens our minds. In the first reading of Songs 2:8:14, we see a story between the lover and the beloved. The lover has developed very intimate lines aimed at expressing undying love.

The passage radiates love, speaks love, and develops LOVE. The Song reminds us of beautiful love songs created by popular musicians that express love. The words illuminate our hearts and make us feel good. God’s love, which creates the whole universe and holds all in its being, is sustained by the breath of His spirit, just as expressed in the Song. God is the song of creation. What a soul satisfying truth that brightens our hope this is!

During Advent, our creator tells us how strongly He loves. He offers an invitation to come just the way we are, with no strings attached. The Love of our Lord Jesus Christ knows no bounds!

Almighty God, you are the owner and king of the Universe. Your Love is beyond compare. Please help me to thoroughly prepare my heart for your coming. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
