“Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” – Luke 1:45

Zeal can be defined as great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective. I’m sure all of our schools have experienced great Zeal over the last week as students AND teachers look forward to the Christmas break. Vacations and days off are not the only times we see great energy or enthusiasm in our hallways. There are countless examples we witness on a daily basis in the “common ordinary, unspectacular flow of everyday life.”

Each day, I stand in front of the school for 30 minutes, welcoming students as they are dropped off, and waving to parents as they drive away. I enjoy being out there and seeing members of our community. I’m not sure anyone leaps for joy like Elizabeth’s unborn child did when the infant heard Mary’s voice, but I do get a lot of smiles and enthusiastic greetings. Sometimes, a simple greeting is the one little thing that people need to brighten their day.

Lord, during this Advent season, please help us to slow down and hear your words. Allow us to be present for You and for others, so that we may walk in Your ways.
