You have freely chosen
to respond the call of God, your Father,
to live a life of love
in faith and trust,
as a disciple of his Son, Jesus Christ,
in the Congregation
of the Brothers of Saint Francis Xavier.
In calling you
God too was completely free.
Your Founder,
Theodore James Ryken,
was most conscious of this,
since he wrote about his own vocation:
God is not obliged
to give an account to anybody,
even if He wants to use a sinner.
You were created by the God of love
in His image and according to His likeness,
to be a unique expression of that love.
It is through you
that He desires to manifest His love
to the peoples of the world in these times,
and to offer them the freedom
of the children of God.
As a disciple of Jesus Christ,
you are called to follow in His footsteps
and minister God’s healing touch of love,
through word and deed,
to all whom you meet
in your journey of life.
You have responded to the invitation:
Come follow me.
Day by day
you will need to renew your response.
Do not become discouraged
over the difficulties you encounter
in your life of evangelical service.
Knowing that difficulties would be your share,
your Founder judged:
that nothing special is achieved
without much labor, effort and zeal.
Remember,
Jesus, your brother,
has walked this path before you.
In you,
as Risen Lord,
He wants to walk this path again,
and His Spirit, the Spirit of God,
now guides you.
At times you will discover
that God’s ways are not your ways,
and God’s thoughts are not your thoughts.
When this happens,
try to surrender yourself trustingly
into the arms of your Father,
who knows you,
understands you,
and loves you.
Perhaps you can repeat
with your Founder
this simple prayer
which he cherished:
O Lord, I cannot understand your ways,
but I must adore them.
Above all else remember
that your God is forever faithful.
In the words of the prophet He says:
Can a mother forget her infant
or be without tenderness<
br /> for the child of her womb?
I will never forget you.
I have branded you
on the palms of my hands.
For your part,
He asks you in return
to make His word your home.
To do this
you must be willing to spend time each day
in solitude and prayer,
opening yourself to His living word.
Your Founder, too,
insisted that his brothers
enter into an intimate relationship with God,
and therefore
he pointed to the example of Jesus Himself:
Look at Jesus,
spending even as many as thirty years
in solitude
and only three years
in preaching.
It is this communion with the living God
which is at the heart of your life
as son of the Father,
disciples of Jesus,
witness of His spirit,
quickened member of His Body,
and brother to the world.
Gradually,
you will realize
that the cost of your discipleship
is your very life,
freely consecrated to God
in poverty, celibacy, and obedience,
and offered to the world
as a sign of His love and care.
The gift you have received
give as a gift.
You have promised
to follow Christ, the poor man,
totally given in love to His Father
and for all people everywhere,
and whose loving obedience led Him
to death on the cross.
Your poverty
is to recognize
that all you have and are
comes from God.
Your celibacy
is the desire to open yourself totally
to God’s love
and to share it with others.
Your obedience
is the openness to listen and respond
to God’s will
wherever and however it may be expressed.
Over the course of your lifetime,
your loving Father
will gradually convert you to Himself,
if you let Him.
Ryken looked upon his original vocation
as being such a conversion
through which he
fell in love
with the service of God.
Yet, he too
came to the understanding
that a continual conversion is needed.
Be patient, therefore, with yourself and with God.
If you allow yourself
to be formed by God
through the common,
ordinary,
unspectacular
flow of everyday life,
you will gradually experience
a liberation and a freedom
never before imagined.
Stand ready to answer God
when He asks you
if you are available for Him
to become more present in your life
and through you to the world
Like Mary,
may you willing respond:
Let what you have said be done to me!
Brother,
I give you a new commandment:
Love one another.
Just as I have loved you,
you also must love one another.
By this love you have for one another,
everyone will know that you are my disciples.
Your life with your brothers,
centered on the word and worship of God,
is a sharing
in the memory of Christ.
You are called
to be of one heart and one mind with them
so that you can participate
in the building up of the kingdom of God.
This was the vision
Theodore James Ryken had in view
when he founded the congregation:
A band of Brothers
who mutually help,
encourage,
and edify one another,
and who work together.
You are called then by your Founder
to enter into a true mutual sharing
with your brothers.
This sharing will demand of you
an opening and a giving of yourself to them
at many levels,
and a ready acceptance of each of them
in all their sinful and graced humanity.
Cultivate a sincere friendship
and a warm affection for your brothers,
for it is in the manifestation
of honest fraternal concern and love for each other
that you and they will show
you are sons of Ryken and disciples of Jesus.
Listen to your brothers,
be compassionate with them in their difficulties,
bear with them in their weaknesses,
encourage and support them.
Affirm your brothers in their gifts,
for by doing so you enable them to realize the gifts that God has given them
for His service.
In turn,
allow them to affirm you
and call you forth
to even greater service of the Lord.
Above all,
enter into an ever deeper sharing
of faith and prayer with your brothers;
reflect with them on how you find Him
in your lived experience.
In this way
the community searches out
the needs of the times
and the desires of the Lord
in their regard.
In this shared faith of the community
you will experience
the ongoing revelation of Jesus.
I no longer call you slaves,
for a master does not confide in his slaves;
now I call you friends.
You will find
your fraternal love and friendship
within the community
one of the chief joys
with which the Lord blesses you,
and a most powerful means of evangelization.
As a follower of Jesus
and a brother of your brothers,
keep ever before you
the motto of the congregation:
Concordia res parvæ crescunt.
In harmony small things grow.
For it is only in harmony
that you will grow,
that your community will grow,
that the love of God will grow in your world,
and that the kingdom of God will grow to completeness.
Brother,
Go, then, to all peoples everywhere,
and make them my disciples.
These words of the gospel
stand at the heart of the vision
of your Founder.
Within them is contained
the mission and the ministry
of your congregation.
Beyond this, Theodore James Ryken
chose Saint Francis Xavier
as the patron of the congregation so that
the name of this insatiable laborer for souls
will indicate with one word
what is intended for the congregation.
Your Founder’s vision was unique.
He intended to form a community of laymen
who as religious brothers
would be sent as missionaries to the world.
As vowed members of the people of God,
sealed in baptism and confirmed by the Holy Spirit,
they would participate
in the Church’s mission of evangelization
through a life of gospel service
lived in solidarity and availability
among the people.
It is through your life of gospel witness
lived in common with your brothers
that God desires to manifest
His care and compassionate love
to those who are separated and estranged,
not only from their neighbors,
but also from their own uniqueness;
to those who suffer
from want, neglect, and injustice:
the poor, the weak, and the oppressed
of this world.
They too are called
to experience,
express,
and share
the love of God with the world
through their own giftedness.
In this life of following Christ,
allow yourself, therefore, to be given away,
togeth
er with your brothers,
as nourishment for others,
as bread that is broken.
As a son of Theodore James Ryken,
it is essential for you
to be familiar with his vision and his spirit,
especially as these are manifested in his writings.
As you immerse yourself
in the foundation documents of the congregation,
you will perceive
the evolution of the Founder’s thought
and his readiness to adapt his vision
to the changing needs of the times.
Study and reflect also
upon the history of the congregation,
for this history
is the actual
lived
expression and development
of your Founder’s charism.
It will reveal to you
the mysterious ways of God
in the cycle of death and rebirth
that has been the life of the congregation.
Through your study
you will begin to appreciate, too,
how the ministry of Christian education
became the most prevalent one among the brothers.
As you prayerfully reflect on the past,
assess the present,
and ponder the future with your brothers,
be considerate of this history
and of this ministry.
Yet, like Ryken,
foster an attitude of openness
to the needs of the Church and your world,
and a willingness to follow Christ
wherever He leads.
You are called
to a life of constant searching.
Let the developments and changes
of your times
be a source both of confidence and challenge to you.
For as your Founder wrote:
The Holy Spirit
does not let himself be bound
by rules and models
but works where and as He wills.
Brother,
This common rule
is not meant to be a burden to you.
My yoke is easy and my burden is light.
It is presented to you in the hope
that through reflection on it
you may strengthen your courage
to follow Christ
as a Xaverian Brother.
By faithfulness to it
may you discover
in God’s own time
ways to incarnate anew
the vision of Theodore James Ryken
and the charism of the Brothers of Saint Francis Xavier
in the life of the world.

Tu as choisi librement
de répondre à l’appel de Dieu, ton Père:

De jour en jour
tu devras renouveler ta réponse.
Ne te laisse pas décourager
par les difficultés que tu rencontres
dans ta vie de service évangélique.
Sachant que des difficultés seraient ta part,
ton Fondateur jegeait:
On n’accomplit rien de spécial
sans beaucoup de travail, d’efforts et de zèle.
Souviens-toi
que Jésus, ton frère,
t’a précédé sur le même sentier.
En toi,
Il désire, comme Seigneur ressuscité,
parcourir le même chemin,
et c’est son Esprit, l’Esprit de Dieu,
qui est maintenant ton guide.
Tu expérimenteras parfois
que les voies de Dieu ne sont pas les tiennes,
et que ses pensées ne sont pas les tiennes.
Lorsque cela arrive,
essaie de t’abandonner avec confiance
à Dieu, ton Père,
qui te connaît,
qui te comprend
et qui t’aime.
Peut-être peux-tu répéter,
avec ton Fondateur,
cette simple prière .
qui lui était chère:
O Seigneur, je ne puls pénétrer tes voies
mais je dois les adorer.
Par-dessus tout, souviens-toi
que Dieu te reste toujours fidèle.
Par les paroles du prophète Il dit:
Une mère, peut-elle oublier son enfant
ou manquer de tendresse
pour le fruit de ses entrailles?
Moi, Je ne t’oublieral jamais.
Je t’ai écrit
dans la paume de ma main.
A toi, en retour,
Il demande de faire de sa parole ta demeure.
tu dois être prêt
à consacrer chaque jour du temps
à la solitude et à la prière
et être disponible à sa parole de vie.
De son côté, ton Fondateur
insistait afin que ses frères
entrent en relation intime avec Dieu.
Dans cette perspective
il mit en évidence l’exemple de Jésus lui-même:
Regarde Jésus-Christ,
passant trente ans
dans la solitude
et s’adonnant seulement trois ans
à la prédication
Cette communion avec le Dieu vivant
est au coeur de ta vie
comme fils de Dieu,
disciple de Jésus,
témoin de son Esprit,
membre vivifié de son Corps,
et frère de tous en ce monde.
Pas à pas
tu comprendras
que le prix pour suivre Jésus
est ta propre vie,
que tu as librement consacrée à Dieu
dans la pauvreté, le célibat et l’obéissance,
et que tu as offerte pour le monde
comme un signe de son amour et de sa sollicitude.
Le don que tu as reçu,
passe-le aux autres comme un don.
Tu as promis
de suivre le Christ, l’homme pauvre,
qui était entièrement donné en amour à son Père,
pour tous les hommes partout dans le monde –
le Christ, don’t l’amour obèissant L’a conduit
jusqu’à la mort sur la croix.
Ta pauvreté
est l’aveu
que tout ce que tu as et tout ce que tu es
vient de Dieu.
Ton célibat
est le désire d’être entièrement ouvert
à l’amour de Dieu
et de le partager avec les autres.
Ton obéissance
est ta disponibilité à écouter et à suivre
la volonté de Dieu
où et comme elle s’exprime.
Tout au long de ta vie,
le Père qui t’aime
te convertira tout doucement à Lui,
si tu Le laisses faire. &nb

Ton Fondateur considérait sa vocation originale
comme une conversion
par laquelle il
devint amoureux
du service de Dieu.
Lui aussi, toutefois,
parvint à comprendre
qu’une conversion continueIl est nécessaire.
Sois donc patient avec toi-même et avec Dieu.
Si tu acceptes
d’être formé par Dieu,
dans la voie commune,
ordinaire
et simple
de la vie quotidienne,
tu expérimenteras pas à pas
une libération et une liberté,
don’t tu n’avais jamals eu idée auparavant.
Sois prêt à répondre à Dieu,
lorsqu’ll te demande
si tu es disponible
afin qu’ll soit plus intimement
présent dans ta vie
et, par toi, dans le monde.
Comme Marie,
puisses-tu être prêt à dire:
Qu’il me soit fait selon ta parole!
Frère,
Je vous donne un nouveau commandement:
aimez-vous les uns les autres.
Comme je vous ai aimés,
ainsi vous devez vous aimer les uns les autres.
Alors tout le monde saura
que vous êtes mes disciples.
Ta vie avec tes frères,
centrée sur la parole de Dieu et la liturgie,
est une participation
à la mémoire du Christ.
Tu es appelé
à être un de coeur et d’esprit avec eux,
afin de pouvoir participer
à l’édification du Royaume de Dieu.
Ceci fut la vision
de Théodore Jacques Rijken
lorsqu’il fonda la congrégation:
Une société de Frères
qui s’entr’aident,
s’animent,
s’edifient mutuellement,
et qui travaillent ensemble.
Tu es donc appelé par ton Fondateur
à un véritable partage réciproque
avec tes frères.
Ce partage exigera de toi
de leur être ouvert, de te donner toi-même
en beaucoup de domaines
et de les accepter effectivement, chacun d’eux,
dans toute leur humanité pécheresse mais pardonnée.
Cultive une amitié sincère
et une chaleureuse affection pour tes frères,
car c’est en manifestant &n
bsp;
votre véritable souci fraternel
et votre amour mutuel
que vous vous montrerez, eux et toi,
des fils de Rijken et des disciples de Jésus.
Ecoute tes frères
et compatis à leurs difficultés,
supporte-les dans leurs faiblesses,
encourage-les et soutiens-les.
Affermis tes frères dans leurs talents,
car ainsi tu les mettras en état
de comprendre quelles qualitiès Dieu leur a données
pour son service.
A ton tour,
permets qu’ils t’affermissent
et te stimulent
à un plus grand service du Seigneur,
Surtout,
applique-toi à un partage toujours plus profond
dans la foi et la prière avec tes frère avec tes frères;
cherche, de pair avec eux, comment trouver Dieu
dans les expériences de la vie.
De cette façon
la communauté examine
les besoins de notre époque
et les désirs du Seigneur
à leur sujet.
Dans cette foi partagée par la communauté
tu expérimenteras
comment Jésus se révèle sans arrêt.
Je ne vous appelle plus des serviteurs
car un serviteur ne sait pas
ce que fait son maître,
mais je vous appelle des amis.
Tu découvriras
que le charité et l’amitié et l’amitié fraternelle
dans la communauté
est une des plus grandes joies
don’t le Seigneur te comble,
et un puissant moyen d’évangélisation.
En disciple de Jèsus
et frère de tes frères,
ne perds pas de vue
la devise de la congrégation:
Concordia res parvae crescunt.

bsp; Grâce à la concorde les petites choses croissent.
Car c’est seulement dans la concorde
que tu croîtras toi-même,
que ta communauté grandira,
que l’amour de Dieu s’accroîtra dans ce monde,
et que le Royaume de Dieu parviendra à sa plénitude.
Frère,
Va donc vers toutes les nations
et fais-en mes disciples.
Ces paroles de l’évangile
constituent le tréfonds de la vision
de ton Fondateur.
Elles contiennent
la mission et le ministère
de la congrégation.
De plus, Théodore Jacques Rijken a choisi
Saint François Xavier
comme patron de la congrégation afin que:
Le non de cet insatiable zélateur des âmes
désigne en un mot &n

quel est le but de la congrégation.
La vision de ton Fondateur était unique.
Il désirait instituer une communauté de laïcs
qui, en tant que religieux frères,
soient envoyés au monde comme missionnaires.
Membres du Peuple de Dieu, ayant fait profession
de ce qui était scellé dans leur baptême
et confirmé par l’Esprit Saint,
ils prendralent part à la mission d’évangélisation de l’Eglise,
par une vie de service évangélique
caractérisée par la solidarité et la disponibilité
au milieu des gens.
Par ta vie de témoignage évangélique,
menée en commun avec tes frères,
Dieu désire exprimer
son amour vigilant et compatissant
pour ceux qui sont séparés et coupés,
non seulement de leurs proches
mais aussi de leur propre moi;
pour tous ceux qui souffrent
par privation, négligence et inustice:
les pauvres, les faibles et les opprimés
de ce monde.
Eux aussi sont appelés
à expérimenter,
à exprimer,
à partager
l’amour de Dieu envers le monde
au moyen des dons qui sont les leurs.
Dans cette vie d’imitation du Christ,
il faut donc consentir à être donné,
ensemble avec tes frères,
comme nourriture pour les autres,
comme du pain rompu.
Tu es un fils de Théodore Jacques Rijken.
C’est pourquoi il est essentiel pour toi
d’être au courant de sa vision et de son esprit,
surtout tels qu’ils apparaissent dans ses écrits.
En éntudiant sérieusement
les documents de la foundation de la congrégation,
tu seras frappé
de l’évolution de la pensée due Fondateur
et de sa disponibilité à adapter ses vues
aux besoins changeants des temps.
Etudie aussi et réfléchis sur
l’histoire de la congrégation, &nbs
p;
car cette histoire est
l’expression actuelle
et le développement vivant
du charisme de ton Fondateur.
Tu y découvriras
les voies mystérieuses de Dieu
dans le cycle de mort et de renaissance,
qui a marqué la vie de la congrégation.
Cette étude
te conduira à comprendre aussi
comment l’apostolat de l’éducation chrétienne
devint la tâche prédominante de frères.
Pendant que tu réfléchis, en prière, sur le passé,
que tu jauges le présent,
et que to prépares l’avenir avec tes frères,
veuille donc tenir compte de cette histoire
et de ce service apostolique.
Mais, comme Rijken,
sois aussi ouvert
aux nécessités de l’Eglise et du monde,
et sois prêt à suivre le Christ
là où Il te conduit.
Tu es appelé
à une vie de recherche continuelle.
Puissent les développements et les changements
de
ces temps
être pour toi tout autant une source de confiance qu’un défi.
Car comme l’a écrit ton Fondateur:
Le Saint-Esprit
ne se laisse lier
ni par des règles, ni par des modèles,
mais Il agit où et comme Il veut.
Frère,
Cette, régle de vie
ne signifie pas un fardeau pour toi.
Mon joug est doux
et mon fardeau est léger.
Elle t’est présentée dans l’espoir
que, en la méditant,
tu affermiras ton courage
afin de suivre le Christ
comme Frère Xavérien.
Par ta fidélité envers elle
puisses-tu découvrir,
quand vient l’heure de Dieu,
des voies nouvelles pour incarner
la vision de Théodore Jacques Rijken
et le charisme des Frères de Saint François Xavier
dans la vie du monde.

Je hebt vrij gekozen
de oproep van God, je Vader, te beantwoorden:
een leven van liefde te leiden
in geloof en vertrouwen,
al seen volgeling van Zijn Zoon, Jezus Christus,
in de Congregatie
van de Broeders van Sint-Franciscus Xaverius.
Toen Hij je riep,
was Goe evenens volkomen vrij.
Je Stichter,
Theodoor Jacobud Rijken,
was zich daar heel bewudt van,
want hij schref over zijn eigen roeping:
God moet (…)
aan niemand rekening doen,
zelfs als (Hy) eenen zondaar wil gebruiken.
Door die God van liefde werd je geschapen
naar Zijn beeld en gelijkenis,
om een unieke uitdrukking te zijn nan die liefde.
Door jou
Wenst Hij Zijn liefde te betuigen
aan de mensen van deze tijd,
en ze de vrijheid aan te bieden
van de kinderen van God.
Als volgeling van Jezus Christus
ben je geroepen om in Zijn voetstappen te treden
en bedienaar te zijn van Gods helende liefde,
door word en daad,
voor allen die je ontmoet
op je levensries.
Je hebt de oproep beantwoord:
Kom en volg Mij.
Dag na dag
zal je het antwoord daarop moeten vernieuwen.
Laat je niet ontmoedigen
door de moeilijkheden die je ontmoet
in j eleven van evangelische dienst.
Wetend dat moeilijkheded je deel zouden worden,
oordeelde je Stichter:
(dat) men niets byzonders uitricht
zonder veel arbeid, beweding en iever.
Denk eraan
dat Jezus, je broer,
je voorging op datzelfde pad.
In jou
wenst Hij, als de verrezen Heer,
opnieuw die weg te gaan,
en Zijn geest is het, de Geest van God,
die je nu leidt.
Af en toe zal je ervaren
dat Gods wegen niet jouw wegen zijn,
en Zijn gedachten niet die van jou.
Wanneer dat gebeurt,
poog jezelf vol vertrouwen over te geven
aan God, je Vader,
die je kent,
je begrijpt
en je liefheeft.
Misschien kan je,
met je Stichter,
dit simpele gebed herhalen
dat hem dierbaar was:
O Heere, ik kan Uw wegen niet begrypen,
maar moet die aanbidden.
Bovenal, vergeet niet
dat God je immer trouw blijft.
Met de woorden van de profeet zegt Hij:
Kan een moeder haar kind vergeten,
of geen tederheid kennen
voor de vrucht van haar schoot?
Ik zal je nooit vergeten.
Ik heb je gegrift
in de palm van Mijn hand.
Van jouw kant, als wedergave,
vraagt Hij dat je Zijn woord
tot je “thuis” maa
kt.
Om dat te doen,
moet je ertoe bereid zijn
elde dag tijd te wijden
aan eenzaamheid en gebed
en je open te stellen voor Zijn levend woord.
Ook je Stichter
drong erop aan dat jizn broeders
innig verbonden zouden zijn net God.
Met het oog daarop
verwwees hij naar het voorbeeld van Jezus zelf:
Ziet naar Jezus Christus (…)
dertig jaren
in eenzaamheid
en maar drie
in het prediken.
Die gemeenschap met de levende God
vormt de kern van j eleven
als zoon van de Vader,
volgeling van Jezus,
getuige van Zijn Geest,
dynamiasch lid van Zijn Lichaam,
en broer van allen in deze wereld.
Stap voor stap
zal je gaan beseffen
dat de prijs van je volgeling-zijn
je eigenste leven is,
dat je vrij hebt toegewijd aan God
in armoede, celibaat an gehoorzaamheid,
en hebt opgedragen voor de wereld
al seen teken van Xijn liefde en kommer..
De gave due he ontvangen hebt,
geef die ook door al seen gave.
Je Hebt beloofd
Christus te volgen, de Arme,
die in liefde total gegeven was ann Zijn Vader
voor alle mensen, waar ter wereld ook –
Christus, van Wie de liefdevolle gehoorzzaamheid
Hem bracht tot de dood op een kruis.
Je armoede
is de erkenning
dat at wat je ben en bezit
van God komt.
Je celibaat is het verlangen
om jezelf volledig open te stellen
voor de liefde van God
en die met anderen te delen.
Je gehoorzaamheid
is de bereidheid om gehoor en gevolg te geven
aan de wil van God,
waar en hoe die ook wordt uitgedrukt.
In de loop van j eleven
zal je liefhebbende Vader
je stilaan tot Zijn bekeren,
als je Hem maar laat begaan.
Je Stichter zag zijn oorspronkelijke roeping
als zulk een bekering
waardoor hij
verliefd werd (…)
op den dienst van God.
Ook hij, evenwel,
kwam tot de bevinding
date en voortdurende bekering nodig is.
Heb dus geduld met jezelf en met God.
Indien je aanvaardt
door God te worden gevormd
door middle van het gewone,
eenvoudige,
onopvallende
leven van elke dag,
zal je gaandeweg
een bevrijding en vrijheid ervaren,
die je voordien nooit had bevroed.
Wees gereed om God te antwoorden
waneer Hij je vraagt
of je voor Hem beschikbaar bent,
zodat Hij inniger tegenwoordig kan zijn in j eleven
en, door ju, in de wereld.
Zoals Maria,
mocht ook jij bereid zijn om te zeggen:
Mij geschiede naar Uw woord!
Broeder,
Ik geef je een nieuw gebod:
heb mekaar lief.
Zoals lk jullie heb liefgehad,
zo moeten jullie mekaar liefhebben.
Door de liefde die je mekaar toedraagt,
zal iedereen weten dat je Mijn leerlingen bent.
J eleven met je broeders,
dat kringt rond het woord en de eredienst van God,
is een deelhebben
aan de gedachtenis van Christus.
Je bent ertoe geroepen
één van hart en één van geest te zijn met hen,
zodat je kan deelnemen
aan de opbouw van het Rijk Gods.
Dit was de visie
van Theodoor Jacobus Rijken
toen hij de congregatie stichtte:
eenen band (van) Broeders
die elkianderen helpen,
opwekken,
stigten,
en gezamentlyk werken.
Je wordt dus door je Stichter opgeroepen
tot een wederzijds “delen”
met je broeders.
Dit “delen” zal van je vergen:
een openheid voor hen en een geven van jezelf aan hen
op heel wat gebieden,
alsook een bereidwillig aanvaarden van elk van hen
in heel hun zondige en begenadigde menselijkheif.
Streef naar echte vriendschap
en diepe genegenheid tegenover je broeders,
want door de uitdrukking
van opechte beorderlijke zorg en liefde voor elkaar
zal jij, samen met hen, laten zien
det je zonen bent van Rijken en volgelingen van Jezus.
Luister naar je broeders,
leef met hen mee in hun moeilijkheden,
verdraag ze in hun zwakheden,
moedig hen aan en steun ze.
Bevestig je broeders in de gaven die de hunne zijn,
want Aldus stel je ze in staat
te beseffen welke talenten God hun schonk
voor Zijn dienst.
Op jouw beurt,
laat ze toe jet e bevestigen
en je op te reopen
tot nog groter dienst van de Heer.
Bovenal,
kom tot een steeds dieper “delen”
van geloof en gebed met je broeders;
zoek, samen met hen, hoe je God vindt
in de ervaringen van je leven.
Op die manier
onderzoekt de gemeenschap
de noden van de tijd
en de verlangens van de Heer
met betrekking tot die noden.
In dat “gedeelde” geloofsinzicht van de gemeenschap
zal je ervaren
hoe Jezus zich voortdurend verder bekendmaakt.
Ik noem je niet langer dienaars,
want een dienaar weet niet wat zijn meester doet,
maar jullie noem lk vrienden.
Je zal ondervinden
dat broederlujke liefde en vriendschap
in de communiteit
een van de grootste vreugden is,
waarmee de Heer je begunstigt,
en een van de machtigste middelen tot evangelisatie
Als volgeling van Jezus,
en broer met je broeders,
hou steeds de leuze
van je congregatie voor ogen:
Concordia res parvae crescunt.
Waar eendracht bloeit, het kleine groeit.
Want alleen in eendracht
zal jijzelf groeien,
zal je gemeenschap groeien,
zal Gods liefde groeien in die wereld van jou,
en zal Gods Rijk tot zijn volheid komen.
Broeder,
Gad an tot alle volkeren,
en maak ze tot Mijn leerlingen.
Die woorden van het evangelie
vormen de kern van de visie
die je Stichter had.
Zij omschrijven immers
de zending en de dienende opdracht
van je congregatie.
Bovendien verkoos Theodoor Jacobus Rijken
de Heilige Franciscus Xaverius
tot patron van de congregatie opdat
den title van dezen onverzadigden ieveraar der zielen
in een woord (zou) aanduiden
wat men met de Congregatie bedoelt.
De vusue van he Stichter was uniek.
Hij wenste een gemeenschap op te richten van liken
die, als religieuze broeders,
tot de wereld worden gezonden als missionarissen.
Als leden van het volk Gods,
door geloften verbonden
aan wat bezegeld werd in he doopsel
en bevestigd door de Heilige Geest,
zouden zij deelnemen aan de evangelisatie-zending
van de Kerk,
door een elven van evangelische dienstbaarheid,
in solidariteit en beschikbaarheid,
te midden van de mensen.
J eleven van evangelisch getuigenis,
in gemeenschap met je broeders,
is de manier waarop God, door jou,
uitdrukking wenst te geven
aan Zijn zorg en meevoelende liefde
voor hen die gescheiden zijn en vervreemd,
niet enkel van hun medemensen
maar ook van hun eigen unieke persoonlijkheid;
voor hen die lijden
door gedbrek, verwaarlozing en onrecht:
de armen, de zwakken en verdrukten
van deze wereld.
Ook zij worden geroepen
tot ervaren,
uitdrukken
en “mee-delen”
van de liefde van God voor de wereld
door de gaven die de hunne zijn.
In dat leven van Christus-navolging
dien je er dus mee in te stemmen
te worden weggeschonken,
tezamen met je broeders,
als voedsel voor anderen,
als brood dat wordt gebroken.
Je bent eenzoon van Theodoor Jacobus Rijken,
en daarom is het voor jou echt belangrijk
bekend te zijn met zijn visie en zijn geest,
vooral zoals die blijken uit zijn geschriften.
Wanneer je doordringt tot een diepere kennis
van de stichtingsdocumenten van de congregatie,
zal je worden getroffen
door de ontwikkeling van de gedachten van je Stichter
en door zijn bereidheid om zijn visie aan te passen
aan de wisselende noden van de tijden.
Je word took uitgenodigd tot studie en bezinning
omtrent de geschiedenis van de congregatie.
In die studie vind je immers
de feitelijke,
door-leefde
uitdrukking en ontwikkeling
van het charisma van je Stichter
.
Daar zal je kennismaken
met de mysterievolle wegen van God
in de kringloop van dood en wedergeboorte,
waardoor het leven van je congregatie werd getekend.
Die studie zal je ook leiden
tot waardering voor het feit
dat het dienstwerk van de christelijke opvoeding
de overheersende taak werd van de broeders.
Terwijl je in geest van gebed,
samen met je broeders,
nadenkt over het verleden,
het heden evalueert
en de toekomst voorbereidt,
wild an rekening houden met die geschiedenis
en die apostolische dienst.
Maar, zoals Rijken,
wil ook openstaan
voor de noden van de Kerk en de wereld,
en bereid zijn Christus te volgen
waarheen Hij je ook leidt.
Je bent geroepen
tot een leven van voortdurend zoeken.
Mogen de ontwikkeling en veranderingen van je tijd
voor jou zowel een bron zijn van vertrouwen
al seen uitdaging.
Want het is zoals je Stichter schreef:
Den H. Geest (…)
laat zich noch aan regelen
noch aan voordeelden binden
en werkt waar en hoe hy wil.
Broeder,
Deze gemeenschappelijke leefregel
is niet bedoeld als een last voor jou.
Mijn juk is zacht en Mijn last is licht.
Hij wordt je aangeboden in de hoop
dat, door bezinning erover,
je moed zal worden aangewakkerd
om Christus te volgen
als Broeder Zaveriaan.
Mocht je, door je trouw eraan,
wanneer Gods tijd komt,
nieuwe wegen ontdekken om gestalte te geven
aan de visie van Theodoor Jacobus Rijken
en het charisma van de Broeders
van Sint-Francisus Xaverius
in het leven van de wereld.
