“Though young men faint and grow weary, and youths stagger and fall, they that hope in the LORD will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles’ wings; They will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint.” Is 40:30-31
To say that I have seen the young men in our schools “… faint and grow weary, … stagger and fall…” is an understatement! As painful as it may be to watch a young person (or anyone for that matter) encounter hardship, each instance also provides an incredible opportunity. Such circumstances are opportunities for us to ponder the timeless question, “How will I support the person before me as they carry their burden?”
As Isaiah points out, a dedicated faith in God and his unwavering goodness certainly represents a worthy tool to navigate any hardship. Yet there is also a role for us, the bystander, to supplement God’s unending love and grace. By offering encouragement, love, and understanding to a person in need, we can provide a timely blessing for those under duress.
The Fundamental Principles also remind us that “As a disciple of Jesus Christ, you are called to … minister God’s healing touch of love, through word and deed, to all whom you meet…” As we prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth, let us also seek to be a blessing for those who are weary—reminding them, through our presence and love, that God’s grace is always near.
Lord, help me to be a blessing to those I encounter, especially those in need. May my words and actions reflect your love, so that others may experience your warmth and healing embrace. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
